About Marcus

I started photographing seriously in 2011, mostly to have an excuse to keep walking. What began as long detours with a borrowed film camera became a way of paying attention — to the way morning fog settles into a valley, the way a stranger's face softens between two sentences.

Today I work primarily in landscape and environmental portraiture. Much of my work is made close to home in Portugal, with longer travel projects across North Africa and northern Europe. I shoot a mix of digital and medium-format film, and I print everything myself on cotton rag paper in a small studio in Lisbon.

My photographs have appeared in independent travel journals and group exhibitions, and prints are held in private collections across Europe. I take on a limited number of editorial and commission projects each year.
